Great idea but too bright November 17, 2008 I loved this product excpet for one small issue - my kids have never slept with a night light and this product stays rather bright at even the lowest setting. If your kids are used to sleeping with a night light go for it - all of the features are great, especially the green light.
Great Alarm Clock for Small Children November 12, 2008 We bought this alarm clock for our 5 year-old son. We had a hard time waking him up every morning for kindergarten. After we got this alarm clock, he almost always gets up on his own after the alarm goes off. It saves us a good 10-15 minutes every morning! The nightlight on the clock is very useful too, he likes it so we don't need an additional one on the wall.
We have started teaching him time, but not pushing it. Once he starts going over it in school, I think this will be useful. Right now, he just presses the button so that the clock announces the time.
Overall, we are very pleased with the clock and would recommend it to anyone with small children.
good clock for kids October 12, 2008 We bought this for our kids' bedroom about a month ago. I like the dual display for helping them learn time and they all seem a bit fascinated by it. It was hard for me to set up though--even after reading the directions several times I was confused. And I'm a little worried about the durability. The plastic case feels awfully thin to me, but only time will tell here. All in all a fun and educational item.
A lot of good features, missing some important ones. October 8, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this clock for my two little girls, neither of whom can tell time. I have a mixed review.
I love the hidden controls, that's genius. I love the way the nightlight turns green at a preset time, that's also genius. The dual display is nice, and that you customize whether it displays digital or analog, or both, is nifty. (I'm not sure if it's that important, but it's nifty.) It's really nice that it will tell my kids the time, verbally, at the touch of a button.
And now, a little about the features -- or lack thereof -- that I'm not crazy about.
In my perfect clocky world, this clock would allow you to still flip the nightlight on and off with the left toe button, EVEN when the nightlight timer is set. Why would that be hard to do? Whether it's on or off, the timer could still either turn it on, leave it on, or turn it green when the preset time arrives.
Also, in my perfect clocky world, you would be able to turn off the backlight. Prior to owning this clock, we did not use nightlights, at all. (Studies are coming out with evidence that it's a pretty good idea to get a good chunk of time at night in the darkest possible conditions, for both a properly functioning biological clock, and for preservation of eyesight.) Now, this clock, even with the nightlight turned off, is very bright. Bright enough to function as a nightlight, which I don't want. If I could turn off the lighting completely, and still have the green light come on at 7am, I would be overjoyed. But the only way to turn off the backlight is by unplugging it and running it on the battery, which will not allow the nightlight/green light timer to function at all. So it's an either/or. If I unplug it, then my kids get a nice dark sleeping space (which they LIKE), but then, the whole point of this clock for me -- the green light function -- is shot.
I'm not sure we'll keep it yet, because for the price, I think it should be a little more flexible. But it's a great idea and I have hope that with some tweaking it will evolve into a totally awesome timepiece.
Amazing Clock October 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This clock is wonderful. We got it for my 2nd grader because she wanted her own alarm clock. This one was perfect. We can practice telling time with the game feature. Which we've actually used (wasn't sure if we'd actually use it since sometimes extra features don't get used). Wonderful to be able to set it in analog mode, digital mode or both. We love the "talking" feature. When her alarm is set and turned on, it "talks" to her and says "you're getting up at 6:40am". Love it. And the alarm when it goes off is not annoying like the buzzing/beeping on your basic digital alarm clock. You have 3 color features (blue, pink, yellow) for the face which is awesome. She picked pink. It's small enough that it doesn't take up a ton of space. I just can't say enough good things about it. Wish I would have bought it a long time ago. Love the night light feature. And are not bothered at all by the constant back light. She has always used a night so this is a nice way of getting the best of both worlds. Oh and it sure has made getting up in the morning a little easier since she gets excited about using her own alarm clock. I used to have to practically drag her out of bed (which still happens here and there but not as much) but with her using her own alarm clock she gets up most of the time on her own and starts getting ready without me having to say a word. Absolutely recommend this clock to every parent.
