Amazon.com Review Subtitled A Treasury of Patterns for Patchwork & Applique, this comprehensive book is just that--250 pages of pattern-block diagrams accompanied by concise construction directions and small color photos of the made-up blocks in well-chosen colors. In addition, a prelimary chapter gives instructions for about 15 projects, and a tips and techniques section outlines the basics for making the blocks and the projects. Whether your tastes run to the more traditional (nine-patch, star, basket, or pineapple variations, among many others) or the more experimental (appliqued orchids, cacti, or heraldic designs, for example), you're likely to find something of interest here.
Product Description With this book. quilters can choose from hundreds of designs, easily customized for personalized themes. Each design features a full-size pattern and color photo of each block.

Great for Miniatures December 9, 2008 This is my favorite book of quilt patterns. I have made several miniature quilts for dollhouses. The 4" size of each pattern is really easy to adapt by adding borders and binding.
Quilt Blocks November 17, 2008 Book OK and in as-described condition. Please with seller's shipping time. I rate this seller as a good one.
Wonderful Reference November 5, 2008 This book's strength is the WIDE variety of quilt blocks it shows. It's is very inspiring to page through. There are classic geometric pieced blocks as well as "picture" pieced blocks (a sewing machine, animals, holiday themes) and classic appliques as well as more whimsical appliques. There are many flowers and animals, as well as themed sections for the holidays, activities and sports, Bible stories, etc.
The weaknesses, in my opinion, are that the blocks are all 4", which is tiny for the complexity of some of them, although enlarging them wouldn't be difficult, and that the photos of the finished blocks don't seem terribly...inspired. The color choices are often blah. I look at them and think, did the person who put this together not have any sense of design?
If you want a book that has instructions and layouts to make entire quilts with large patterns (I'm thinking broken star type quilts), this will probably be a disappointment, as it only gives individual blocks meant to stand alone, but if you want to do a sampler type quilt or play around with styles of blocks, this would be excellent.
501 Quilt Blocks October 31, 2008 This is a great book that should be in every quilter's library. A long list of different blocks to make. Although does not have much information about the patchwork making, but if you already know a little bit about this art you will find it really helpfull... Enjoy!!!!
Good inspiration for patchwork blocks June 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although strip quilting is my favorite type of quilting, this book was inspiring enough that I did a quilt for a classroom and had each student picked out a favorite block. The instructions on how to make the block were good. Although I thought making pieced blocks would be too difficult, it was surprising to me how easy it was to make some really cute blocks. Pieced patchwork blocks may not be my favorite but I now consider them to be attractive and fun.
