Product Description
This first time author is known throughout the quilt world for her beautiful appliqu work. Her prize-winning quilt Lindas Lace has been seen throughout the world. Now she shares her secrets for gorgeous lacy appliqu with us, along with three dozen of her most beautiful lacy appliqu patterns. This easy-to-do technique is fun, fast, and portableperfect for quilters on the move. All you need are two pieces of fabric, scissors, thread, and a needlethe projects are quite portable. Lacy appliqu is also good for scissor-less airline travel. To prepare, just cut and baste your block, and its ready to go.Linda also tells how to find design ideas, represent them in a drawing, and create an appliqu pattern from the drawings. This book is magnificently photographed for inspiration, including the authors prize-winning quilt Lindas Lace. Her spectacular quilts have received many awards, including winning three Great American Quilt contests sponsored by the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City. The foreword is by well-known quilter, teacher, and author Mimi Dietrich.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Lace, Needs More 'Design Your Own' Info   August 1, 2007

There's no denying that the award-winning lace applique quilt on the cover is fantastic - and the author's techniques excellent. There were a great many lovely individual lace patterns that could be used for a 'one design item' like a wall hanging. But I had hoped that there would be more discussion of how the author goes through the process of creating one huge, grand design like the cover quilt - with more suggestions of what makes a good design, and more little 'bits and pieces' of lace patterns that could be used to fill in small spaces, instead of 'stand alone' designs. I think it will be necessary for me to do a bit of research on lace 'design' - enlarging photos of the types of lace 'bits' I need, before I can complete a full quilt design like the author's. I do wish she had included this information - so I wouldn't have to search for it AFTER buying the book! I would love to make a SIMILAR quilt - not a copy of the author's - because the reverse applique process is so easy and 'portable'.
