5 out of 5 stars StratVarious Quilts   December 14, 2008

I found this book quite inspirational. The colour runs are varied as are the designs. The stratas can be used successfully as the main element of design and equally successfully as a background to applique. I will be referring to this book often.

I love this book! The technique is fascinating and it produces beautiful quilts as well as backgrounds for layered designs. I will reporduce a couple of the book's quilts but, more importantly, I will use the technique for other projects. I am inspired!

5 out of 5 stars 2008 Version of String Quilting   October 19, 2008

The title should say "...9 Fabulous String Quilts..."
There are extremely few books written about string quilting. I found one in an estate sale from 1983 (Dover has reprinted it) and a few patterns tucked inside other books but this is a very good source. Although "Strata V" emphasizes using fat quarters, it was originally used for scraps and I strongly recommend it for the latter.
It is very beginner friendly and contains a few appliques and embroidery. The authors should write a book on applique designs as these are lovely.
Highly recommend it to be included in any library.

This book is every bit as exciting as the advertising said it was. Of course you have to love strip piecing (I do!) to enjoy the many designs in the book. I would recommend it to anyone who loves color and strip piecing.

A great book. Very different from what I usually see. The quilts look like art quilts when they are compelted, but they are so easy. You create "stratas" by peicing together strips, then cut squares or triangles to create the quilts. A really great concept and presented very well - clear instructions and illustrations.
