12 Colorful Quilts December 1, 2006 COLORFUL QUILTS gives me 12 wonderful patterns to work with. The very first one in the book is an Alphabet Quilt. What better way to welcome a new baby than with something that has three uses? They can learn their A, B, C's, learn their colors with AND wrap up in the love that made it.
Each pattern has a materials list, cutting instructions and directions. The sad part of this book is that the layout artist is still thinking in the "above the fold" newspaper mentality of 20 years ago. With today's computers and fast-paced society, people don't want to have to hunt for the "rest of the story". It was most likely done this way so that each facing page would show a full-size quilt photo and the beginning instructions. To prevent this, another colorway could have been shown, smaller photos could have been used and the templates could have been included with the instructions rather than putting these things on a page farther back in the book.
There are three types of quilting included: Patchwork, Applique and Paper-Piecing. No quilting designs have been suggested but there is a page of general directions at the very end of the book.
With the various techniques, the bright and luscious colors and patterns that hold my attention, I will be quilting for a long time to come.
Terribly disappointing April 2, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book gave so very little for the money. Probably my own fault that I bought this. Had I read the description more closely I would have realized that it was only 32 pages and 12 quilts. Of the 12 quilts in the book I only felt like 3 or 4 had the WOW! factor I was expecting as far as color. In comparison, the last quilt magazine I purchased had 82 pages and 15 quilts for less than $6. Would not recommend.
