Product Description
Every quilter will want to possess this stunning anthology, which features 10 years worth of the most innovative pieces chosen for the Quilt National biennial exhibition--the top showcase for modern quilt artists. Acclaimed author Robert Shaw, a widely recognized expert on American folk art, introduces the volume and provides both a beautifully illustrated history of the art quilt movement and a special section on building, displaying, and caring for collection of quality pieces. The techniques and materials featured in these 400 spectacular quilts are as varied as the people who created them, and through spectacular color photographs and artists' discussions, readers will discover how the boundaries of traditional quilt-making have expanded in the last decade.

Beautiful quilts, but look like paintings in this book. March 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I would have to agree with the reviewer who wrote that the quilts in this book look more like paintings than like quilts. What I love about the fiber arts and especially quilting is the texture and soft dimension created in the pieces. And I'm always interested in the workmanship, the stitching and piecing and all the intricacies of a quilt, how the artists put everything together. I understand that these quilts are big and you couldn't capture the very small details in a book but I've seen better quality pictures. While many of these quilts are truly beautiful and inspiring, I found myself not giving as much attention to them as I typically would, or being disappointed when I tried to closely examine those quilts that really piqued my interest. I think this book is worth puchasing to see the wonderful creativity of these artists, but if you really want to get a sense of a quilt and see the work in it you might want to make another choice.
A Little disappointed November 12, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great book for the contemporary artist, although I am disappointed in the quality of the photographs.....the quilts look like "prints"...the stitching is not evident in a lot of the photos, making them look as if they are painted....
Art Quilts-The good, the bad, there is no ugle June 1, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is the companion book to the PBS dvd, The Art of Quilting. If you do traditional quilting, this is not for you. For you who crazy quilt or art quilt, this is eye candy over the top. Many of the quilts were featured in the PBS dvd. But there is so much more in the book. This is the book to pick up when you are feeling "quilter's block". The beautiful pictures will inspire your creative side. The pictures are well done, in color and beautiful. This book will get worn since you will looking at it again and again.
Gorgeous photos of stunning quilts May 20, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Amazing inspirational book for quilters. This is one you'll turn to again and again before you reach for the fat quarters! Well worth the money.

This is a large book, and page after page shows absolutely stunning quilts. I gave a copy to my friend for her birthday, and although it wasn't expensive, she kept commenting on the pleasure it gave her.
