Beautiful Lace, Needs More 'Design Your Own' Info August 1, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
There's no denying that the award-winning lace applique quilt on the cover is fantastic - and the author's techniques excellent. There were a great many lovely individual lace patterns that could be used for a 'one design item' like a wall hanging. But I had hoped that there would be more discussion of how the author goes through the process of creating one huge, grand design like the cover quilt - with more suggestions of what makes a good design, and more little 'bits and pieces' of lace patterns that could be used to fill in small spaces, instead of 'stand alone' designs. I think it will be necessary for me to do a bit of research on lace 'design' - enlarging photos of the types of lace 'bits' I need, before I can complete a full quilt design like the author's. I do wish she had included this information - so I wouldn't have to search for it AFTER buying the book! I would love to make a SIMILAR quilt - not a copy of the author's - because the reverse applique process is so easy and 'portable'.
