Beautiful book - but not for the weekend quilter April 3, 2000 69 out of 69 found this review helpful
Easy Stash Quilts is full of eye candy - each page will have your mouth watering and your fingers itching to dig through your fabric stash. But... Carol is a master of her craft, and this book is more suited for the advanced quilter or someone who has to have at least a yard of EVERYTHING at your quilt store. Beginners and those low on fabs will feel a little in over their heads - especially with instructions like "pull out 15 medium fushias". (And God help you if you only figured there were two in existance)Beautiful book - filled with inspiration and quilts that we all like to aspire to make one day - a must for advanced quilters. Beginners, start out with her "Your First Quilt Book : (Or It Should Be!)" and work your way up to Easy Stash Quilts.
Great ideas - but not for the weekend quilter April 3, 2000 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
The quilts in this book are visual candy - each page will have your mouth watering and fingers itching to dig through your fabric stash. But... Carol is a master of her craft, and if you are not a serious fabric-aholic, this one is going to go way over your head. Average instructions call for you to pull "15 differnt medium fushias" out of your stash. God help you if you only thought there were two in existence. So - excellent book for a gormet selection of ideas and beautiful piecework, perfect for an advanced quilter or someone who buys a yard of EVERYTHING at the quilt store. For beginners, work your way up to this one (maybe with a copy of her 'Your First Quilt Book : (Or It Should Be!)'.
Easy Stash Quilts is a winner! March 30, 2000 48 out of 48 found this review helpful
I perused this book and found it to be very interesting. Then I noticed that in the back of the book there was a CD rom. WOW! This was a fabulous addition to the book. On it is a half hour workshop with Carol Doak and Nancy Martin, showing you exactly how to choose fabrics from your stash for absolutly stunning quilts. I canot tell you what a wonderful addition this CD rom is to help visually explain the information included in the book. The patterns are exciting, the pictures are great. Some of the blocks are traditionally pieced and some are foundation pieced. This is a fabulous book. I'm a quilting teacher and I plan to encourage my students to buy this book.
