Product Description Think contemporary quilts are beautiful but too difficult for a novice to tackle? Think again. This book makes modern, graphic quilts accessible, both in technical and design terms, to novice and experienced hobby quilters. This is more than just a pattern book. Through detailed step-by-step text and illustrations, even the reader with no prior knowledge of quilt making or design will be able to complete a beautiful and sophisticated quilt. This book is a wonderful primer for new quilters, and a unique, inspirational design and pattern book for quilters with previous experience. Readers will be treated to both design theory and technical diagrams detailing every stage of the process. An introduction to design topics such as color, scale, fabric selection, and composition accompanies 15 original patterns for contemporary, functional quilts that can be used and machine-washed and dried. These quilts can be made in a variety of sizes from baby quilts to bed quilts. Illustrations will show how you can customize each of the quilts to a variety of color palettes. Beautiful color photographs make creating the quilt even easier and each pattern includes the fabric requirements and the technical and design skills that will be learned by making the quilt. The book also includes a reference guide for basic techniques used in each of the patterns, including cutting, piecing, aligning seams, thread color selection, and much more.

Great information, not so great designs. June 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you are a beginning quilter (I am) then the information and techniques in this book are fabulous and generously shared. Since design is totally subjective you may like the designs, especially if you are trying something aside from traditional quilting. I, however, did not. For comparison sake, I like the designs of Denise Schmidt and LOVE the book "Last minute patchwork gifts" and "Make your own contemporary quilts" far better as far as quilts I will actually make.
Makes Me Want To Quilt My World! June 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this book. I was so excited to receive it in the mail and I was not disappointed. There are fantastic patterns. I want to make each and every quilt in this book! The patterns in the book go right up to the edge of the quilt- making quilts that are works of art- not just a blanket to keep warm. The patterns range from beginner to advanced. In addition to beautiful pictures of the quilts, there are also suggestions for other possible color combinations with the same pattern.
Great book! April 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love the designs in this book and the instructions are very easy to follow. I am a beginner quilter and I am not into the look of the old-fashioned, traditional quilts. So this book is great for me. I definitely recommend this product!
Are these authors quilters? February 20, 2008 0 out of 15 found this review helpful
This book is probably my least favorite quilt book! It just doesn't seem like the authors are quilters...although they say they are!
Not for the traditionalist February 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These folks are quilt-makers from the perspective of designers. They are not about traditional quilts - after all this is the 21st century. Their techniques are up-to-date and modern. Love the 1-step binding and quilting tips. This is a fabulous book for a newbee -- don't waste 10-years of your life breaking away from the "way it must be done". Perfect book for the minimalist quilter. I love all their books because of the freshness they bring to the craft.
