Defective out of box. 2nd time was the charm. December 3, 2008 I ordered this blanket for my son's birthday, but when he went to bed that night, he had to do without. Right out of the box, the controller was defective. Thankfully, amazon is great about taking care of the customer, and shipped me a new one even before I returned the first.
The 2nd blanket is (so far) working great, and my son loves his warm bed at night. However, I'd be very wary about buying this, since it sounds like I'm not the only one who has had trouble with this item.
No Good December 1, 2008 It's really soft and fluffy, however, the heating part stopped working without much use. Same E-4 error code that I see posted all over these reviews. Not a recommended buy, for sure!
Customer Service Very Helpful November 27, 2008 I have owned a king size WestPoint Home electric blanket for 2 years. This will be the third winter that my wife and I will enjoy the use of our blanket. Up until this year, everything about the blanket was great. The unit I have is a dual control blanket. Like many of the reports I have read, one of the controllers stopped working and started flashing E3. I e-mailed WestPoint on Nov. 12 with this issue. They responded the next day instructing me to send the controller back to them. I sent the controller on Nov. 18 and received a new controller on Nov. 25. I am happy to say that my blanket is working once again. For the past two years the blanket has been washed and used without problems. The dual control system has allowed my wife and I to sleep in separate comfort. The pre-heat setting is the best! Just tap the button about 15 minutes before you climb into bed and you will enjoy sliding into a warm bed. I have read reviews saying that the amount of heat produced by the blanket is not enough. I can tell you first hand that after the blanket heats your bed up on high prior to you getting in, a setting of 3 with the room temperature of 62, you will be cozy.
Worthless...Zero Stars not Available November 24, 2008 My last electric blanket died after 5+ years of use. It was such a good blanket I decided to buy another. Unfortunately, that blanket was no longer manufactured. After searching and reading about many blankets I decided to purchase this blanket. This was before all the negative reviews. I've used it about 6 months and noticed about a month ago that the controller was staying warm even though the blanket was turned off for over 12 hours. Last week I turned the blanket on and hit the boost to preheat the sheets. When I started to get into bed I heard a repeated clicking noise. I checked the controller and an error code E-4 was flashing. I tried cutting the blanket off and then Boost 18 and then E-4 continued flashing. I tried unplugging and checking connections, turned back on and the same error message appeared. The controller will not turn off. I emailed the company and explained the problem. I received a response that the error codes means there is an internal problem with the blanket. It's still covered under warranty but I will have to pay to return the blanket and wait 3-4 weeks for a replacement. I will NEVER purchase a SleepWarmer blanket again.
Two defective units in a row. November 23, 2008 Well, the first one arrived with only one control working. Amazon sent me another one. It had only one working control, as well... Fortunately i was able to take the one working control from each box to create a working blanket... which only lasted for a week. Now only one side heats up.
That seems to be a common theme in these reviews. I won't be buying anything else from Westpoint. Especially since their website appears to be designed to prevent customers from being able to contact them...
