4 out of 5 stars Soft and colorful blanket   November 23, 2008
The blanket is a beautiful red though it is not as soft as I thought it would be. Still a good deal.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully soft   September 21, 2007

I purchased this throw at the Faribault Woolen Mill store in Minnesota. Mine is an irregular at about half of the amazon price. I can't tell what's wrong with mine. Because this throw is pure wool and cashmere, it's very soft. It feels like there's more than the 15% cashmere in it. And it's also very warm considering how light weight it is. I was told that this throw was originally made for a well known catalog company to retail at about $150 to $200.
Unfortunately wool blankets seem to be under appreciated. Most blankets I see at retailers are made of synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers don't retain warmth like wool does. Wool can be very soft, think of merino wool (from merino sheep). Wool can also be easy to take care of. Manufacturers can add a rinse to the fibers making them machine washable. I handwash my dryclean only woolens without a problem (just be gentle.)
According to Faribault Woolen Mill's website, they are the last woolen mill in the US to run a fully vertical mill. They start with raw wool and end with quality blankets and throws. Faribo continues to make a high quality product at a fair price. These blankets are still made in the US; Faribo has not outsourced their manufacturing. Faribo should be commended for that.
I highly recommend this throw and other Faribault Woolen Mills products because the mill has maintained high standards of quality. Products that don't meet those standards are sold as irregulars at a discount and generally the flaws are minimal. The Faribo products sold on Amazon are only first quality. You won't be disappointed with this throw or with any Faribo product.
