Product Description
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyed it, but a little disappointed   December 3, 2008
This book was a little harder to get through then Twilight. I found myself losing focus on the book as there were many parts that dragged. At times I felt the author could have easily cut off 100-150 pages and we wouldn't have missed a thing. Ok read, but definitely not as good as the first one.

4 out of 5 stars missed Edward's point of view...   December 3, 2008
The author was really brave, removing one of the primary characters away from the book for 400 pages. I liked the book, it was very different. he description of what ones goes through when one loses someone he or she loves is very accurate; I could identify with it. I also liked the development of the werewolves/shape shifters.

However, I did feel that when Edward and Bella finally meet, it was kind of as if they immediately got back to where they were. There was no awkwardness, no hurt feelings. All was forgiven, and immediately.

What I would have really liked (to make it 5 stars) was a recount of what Edward went through, both emotionally, as well as in his daily life in the period he disappears from Bella's life. Maybe Stephanie can write a 'Midnight Moon' as well as a 'Midnight Sun'!!!

3 out of 5 stars Missed Edward   December 2, 2008
***If you haven't read this book yet, skip this review as there is a bit of spoilers in it***

I did like this book, but I wanted more of Edward and Bella, that is what hooked me on the series...what I ultimately thought it was centered around. It was really sad when Edward left.....but I just "knew" he would be back. What I did NOT expect was that he would be gone for the majority of the book. Because Edward is the favorite character for me, I was disappointed. It was a good read, and I was ecstatic when Edward was reintroduced. Edward is the draw for me in these books and without him it was just....well...not Twilight.... I just found it strange for Stephenie Meyer to write this beautiful love story between Edward and Bella in the first novel, only to almost delete him from the second installment. I can see what she was doing, but I was disappointed. I gave this 3 stars because in the end, she did redeem herself by bringing Edward and the rest of the Cullens back.

5 out of 5 stars New Moon   December 2, 2008
The Twilight saga was never on my reading list until I heard about it from a friend, who said my youngest daughter would like to read it. By that time I had seen a movie clip about the first book, Twilight. The clip I saw was very good and got me thinking about the book. I have read all the books and I very much enjoyed them all! I don't think they are solely for the young teen girls, I believe they are for all ages! I am a 44 year old female, and I am addicted to them all I can't wait for the next movie New Moon.

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly genuine heartbreak   December 2, 2008
I finished reading New Moon only about 48 hours after I read Twilight, as I found both books quite consuming. My review does contain spoilers, be warned.

Twilight opens with Bella's 18th birthday party and quickly segues into a tale of desolate heartbreak as her vampire boyfriend, Edward, chooses to leave her "for her own good." With Edward and his family gone, with no lingering hope of their return, Bella spirals into a profound depression for most of the book. Many reviewers have noted that Bella's character seems weak in her despair over losing "a boyfriend" and lament that she lacks many qualities of a strong young woman. It seems to me that the point of the heavy romance in Twilight was to set up a context in which Bella's destruction in New Moon would be understandable. Edward was not her "boyfriend," but her true love. Their lives and hearts are twined together in a way that cannot be gotten over when the two separate. Bella describes feeling physically pulled apart in her chest, feeling even that her heart is literally bleeding out in despair without her love.

I was moved to read what I took to be such a viscerally honest account of real heartbreak. When one loses a great love, either through a horrifying break-up, divorce, or death, life often does lose its meaning and sense. Bella's behavior throughout most of the book would be strange indeed for the average teen sorrowing over a lost boyfriend. She engages in quite a bit of dangerous thrill-seeking, uses a good friend in a painful manner, hears Edward's voice in her head, and loses touch with family, friends, activities, interests... more than grieving a break-up, Bella is grieving the loss of half of herself. Perhaps more readers could identify with Bella's grief in the context of the loss of a mother, or a partner of 50 years perhaps. It is not typical for a 17-year-old to make such a deep connection to a partner, so perhaps that has lead many readers to bristle at Bella's downward spiral in this book, seeing her behavior as unwarranted.

** major spoiler **
At the end of the book, Bella at last recognizes that Edward has always loved her and always will love her, just as she loves him. This recognition generates a shift in her perception of herself as well as of their relationship and allows her to embark on healthier path than she had been able to take before. The stage seems to be set for Bella to move into book three with a strong relationship AND an independent sense of self and of her self-worth. I will continue to enjoy seeing how her character develops in each book.
